Distance Learning in Theological Education
Brethren assemblies emphasise the teaching of the Word of God. Such teaching was given in the past by various means by spirit-filled and devoted Bible teachers. Such work is still being profitably carried on. However, the necessity for an established institution for this purpose was felt by many responsible brethren and hence BBI. Several brethren have been receiving the benefits of the ministry of BBI. But the majority of our believers who have the desire to study the Bible systematically could not accomplish that due to their secular profession. Therefore, BBI started its Distance education programme in 1998.
Distance Education is a term which encompasses all learning that takes place at locations remote from the point of education. Distance education enables the student to tend to the rest of their life obligations, and is perfect for those in employment. Centred on the student, the distance learning course, laid out and worked through in this method is the chosen variety for the older student, and the younger, as it bridges the gap between the assessor and the student with technologies which can be used and accessed at any time. With this method, a student’s location is not a barrier when interested in advancing their education.
The Distance Education Department of BBI has the following purposes:
Distance education is more challenging than classroom education because it puts more responsibility on the student. In a classroom-based course, having to show up for class is a motivator. It’s up to distance learners, on the other hand, to tempo themselves and follow through the course. Distance learning works best for the mature believers, motivated persons who are ready to take the responsibility for learning without reminders from teachers or classmates. Will you take up the challenge or responsibility to study the Word of God along with your God given ministry or along with your God given secular profession?
